- UTorrent is a popular torrent program that tops our list of the best free torrent client software for good reasons. Because the RSS downloader is such a useful feature in uTorrent, I want to explain how to set it up and use it correctly. This feature works best with recurring files like TV shows.
- You can use the Alt+U shortcut to show and hide the sidebar window, and try adding some torrents by dragging links to.torrent file onto the WebUI screen.
- Jul 3, 2017 - It's a fresh install, nary a.torrent in site, but our connection between the remote. This stops the WebUI and opens up the configuration file for it.
BitTorrent is great for sharing large files. If you have been using BitTorrent for some time you know the kind of stuff you can find out there. From movies to TV to games to Stanford lectures.
Feb 27, 2018 - uTorrent Web is the lightweight version of the popular torrent client uTorrent. The torrent downloader is currently available for Windows.
Here is how you can manage and download your torrents remotely which means that you can start a torrent download on your home computer while you are at your friends place or anywhere with access to the internet. So that when you come back home the downloading is already finished and it’s ready to use.
Sweeeeet? Lets make it happen.
- Either µtorrent (Windows) or Transmission (Linux or Mac)
- A little tweaking around.
For Windows:
- 1. Download µtorrent Web UI (Direct Link) and follow these instructions to set it up.
2. You need to place the zip file as it is (don’t extract) into the Application Data folder for µtorrent. To open the folder go to Start > Run (or Win + R) and type %AppData%µtorrent and hit enter. This will open the required folder. Paste the zip file as it is. Don’t extract.
3. Open µtorrent and go to Options > Preferences (or Ctrl + P) and then to Web UI and check Enable Web UI . Provide the necessary details.
4. Now fire up the browser and point it to http://127.0.0.1:<portnumber>/gui/ where portnumber is the one mentioned in Preferences > Connection . Alternatively you can enable Web UI at 8080 from the dialog in step 3. I found this to work better. You can try both the options. https://poweruphawaii222.weebly.com/mac-app-for-viewing-photos.html.
5. If all went well you should see the Web UI in the browser.
For Linux:
- 1. Just download and install Transmission Client. Look here or use your distribution’s package management. Make sure you have version >= 1.30.
2. Go to Edit > Preferences and Check Enable Web Interface, optionally you can specify a username and password, you will be asked to log in when you try to access the torrents via the web interface.
3. Remember the port number you specify or leave the default if there is no conflict.
4. That’s it, you are ready to rock! Fire up the browser and hop over to http://localhost:9091 (you may need replace 9091 with the port you specified in case you changed it).
5. You should see the interface or login screen if all went well. If not, make sure you did everything right or see troubleshooting below.
For Mac :
Transmission (see above) is available for Mac as well. So most of the setup would be similar, I presume. I have not tried it on a Mac because I don’t have one.
Troubleshooting and Additional Tips:
Entering localhost:port doesn’t show up anything on my machine
Make sure you followed the steps correctly, also check that your firewall allows access to the port. And oh yes, make sure the torrent application is running on the remote machine (i.e. the machine you are trying to access).

Entering localhost:port shows up my friends torrents
Yes, it will. If you want to access your torrents on your home computer you will have to know the IP-Address of your home computer. In that case you will have to enter : or use dynamic DNS (see below) to access the torrents.

I can access the torrents using localhost or 127.0.0.1 but cannot access from the internet
Make sure you are typing the IP correctly. You might also have to forward the port in question. Use your router’s guide to achieve this or try port-forward

My IP changes everytime I connect to the internet, is there a way around?

So here you go – There are a number of services that offer you dynamic DNS’s. This means that you will get a URL like yourname.xyz.com, and everytime you enter this URL you will be actually referring to your computer/server at home. DynDns and No-IP are two such services. I have been using DynDNS and there are clients for both Windows and Linux that keep your IP updated. So no matter how often your IP changes yourname.xyz.com will always point to your computer. You can use this with a static IP as well just to make it easier.
I am on Windows using µtorrent and my web UI still doesn’t appear
You might want to enable the alternative listening port from within Options > Preferences > Web UI . I had this problem in the beginning where it would only show up on the alternative port. Some users have also reported problems when using the trailing ‘/’ after ‘gui’ in http://127.0.0.1:<portnumber>/gui/ so you can try with and without the trailing ‘/’ and see if that helps.

Hear the word 'torrent' and you probably think of piracy, but the technology can be used perfectly legally to share open source, public domain and copyright-free movies, software, books, music, podcasts and much more. It's also gaining traction as a legitimate way for artists to distribute their work; companies including Blizzard Entertainment and CCP Games have chosen to use torrents to distribute content legally.
The key benefit of using torrents is that the file you want can be downloaded from several locations at the same time, speeding things up dramatically. If you want to download in this way, you'll need a torrent client. Here, we'll show you how to use one of the best: uTorrent (also known as µTorrent).

Review and where to download: uTorrent
2. Find a source
Now you need to find a source of torrents. There are lots of legal options, such as The Internet Archive, where you'll find an extensive collection of music, software, TV shows, movies, books and more, all available free and legally.
For this tutorial, we're going to see what Charlie Chaplin movies are available from the Charlie Chaplin Festival collection. On the page for the movie, you'll see a 'Torrent' link. Click this and download the .torrent file.
3. Select your files
Torrent files are tiny, so it will be downloaded almost instantly. Double click it and uTorrent will open showing you the files that are associated with the torrent. You'll usually want to download all of them, but can also untick the box next to any files you're not interested in.
How To Download From Utorrent
Use the option to the left of the window to choose where the files should be saved, add a label if you feel this would be helpful, and then click the 'OK' button.
4. Check the stats
Switch to the main uTorrent interface and select the 'Torrents' section on the left of the program window to see details of all the torrents currently downloaded. You can ignore most of the information here, but it's handy to keep an eye on the speed of a download and the estimate of how long it will take to complete.
5. Understand magnet links
As well as using torrent files as described above, you'll also encounter magnet links. These work in very much the same way, but cut out the extra step of having to download an extra file to start downloading a movie or other content.
Magnet links can be used to download any type of file, but here we're using one to download the open source OpenOffice suite. The beauty of magnet links is that they're so simple to use; just click the link and uTorrent will open up ready to start the download.
6. Prioritize downloads
If you're downloading two or more torrents at the same time, you may want to decide which is downloaded first. The quickest way to do this is to switch to the main uTorrent window, select the torrent you want to prioritize in the right-hand side of the window, and click the up arrow (repeatedly if necessary) to move it up the list. Conversely, you can use the down arrow button to move a particular download down the list.
7. Limit bandwidth usage
To prevent your downloads from slowing down other web browsing too much, you can place a limit on download speeds. Double-click a torrent you're downloading in the right-hand side of uTorrent and the Torrent Properties dialog will appear. Here you can adjust the maximum upload rate and maximum download rate to your desired speed in KBps.
Note that if you leave the values at the default setting of 0, all available bandwidth will be used.

Utorrent How To Use
Using torrents to download files is a form of peer-to-peer (or P2P) networking, which means that everyone downloading particular files shares the burden of responsibility.
Once a download is complete, it's good etiquette to leave the torrent running so other can continue to download from you. This is known as seeding.
When you've done this for a while, you can remove the torrent or magnet link from uTorrent by right-clicking the entry in the list to the right of the program window and selecting 'Remove and delete .torrent'.
